The internationally acclaimed Billingshurst Choral Society perform:
Fauré: Requiem
Karl Jenkins: The suite from The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace
Rutter: Feel The Spirit
The Billingshurst Choral Society is conducted by George Jones and features soloists Martin Elliot and Callie Swarbrick. They are accompanied by organist Simon Bell from Winchester Cathedral and musicians from the Royal College of Music.
This concert is being given in aid of St Mary's Church in Storrington and the Mission to Seafarers.
St Mary’s, like most ancient Churches, forms the heart of the village community and has been “in town” for over a thousand years. The church can be traced back to Saxon times, is mentioned in the Domesday Book, was updated in the mediaeval period and enlarged during the Victorian era. To keep this much loved place of worship in good health, an ongoing commitment to ensure the fabric is maintained is required. Funds are constantly needed to ensure the future is secure and this concert will help towards that goal.
The Mission is a part of the Christian worldwide Anglican Communion. It is the Church's outreach to seafarers and strives to help the seafarers of the world regardless of nationality, religion, culture, gender or ethnic origin and does an amazing job in some 230 ports around the world. It is visited and used by over three quarters of a million seafarers every year who live lonely lives far from their families to bring us over 90% of our daily goods and services. The work of supporting both the seafarers and their families is even more vital in this time of global piracy and economic downturn.
