On H.G. Wells’s birthday weekend (he would have been 148 on 21 September) Michael Sherborne, best known for his biography H.G. Wells: Another Kind of Life, will explore issues around Wells and the Great War. From Wells' expectations about 20th century warfare (The War of the Worlds, The War in the Air, The World Set Free), including airpower and the atomic bomb, through his work in the war years (including his war journalism, his brief spell in charge of propaganda to Germany and his bestseller Mr Britling Sees it Through), ending with his later view of the war in his Outline of History.
The Fountain is one of Chichester’s oldest pubs, and in the 1820's H.G. Wells’s grandparents were its landlords. A birthday buffet is included as part of this event.
